Clinical interests:

Early Arthritis, Soft tissue rheumatism, Osteoarthritis, Neck and Back pain, Carpal Tunnel syndrome, Osteoporosis, connective tissue disease and chronic pain syndromes/ Fibromyalgia, polymyalgia rheumatica, and temporal arteritis.

Procedures include; Aspiration of knee, ankle, shoulder and wrist joints and joint injections. Any soft tissue injections such as tennis elbow, golfers elbow, trochanteric bursitis, carpal tunnel injections and trigger finger injections. Injection to the small joints depending on the pathology.

Training & background:

Dr Ashok has been working as a Consultant Rheumatologist since 2008 and has broad experience in the diagnosis of all musculo-skeletal rheumatic conditions. Her priority as a specialist is to ensure an accurate diagnosis so that she can provide patients with accurate information about their condition and early management. Dr Ashok has extensive experience in the provision of soft tissue and joint injections for the relief of pain and inflammation and have a particular interest in managing early inflammatory arthritis. She was leading the Early arthritis service in her previous NHS Trust.

Over the years of consultant experience, Dr Ashok has performed a vast number of soft tissue and joint injections for the relief of pain and inflammation.

Dr Ashok was appointed to the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust in July 2017 as a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist.

Before moving to Chelmsford, for 9 years Dr Ashok was a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Durham.

She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate study in General Medicine in India and came to the UK in 2000. Dr Ashok did her senior house officer training post mainly around London and completed her MRCP in 2002.

Dr Ashok undertook specialty training in Rheumatology and General Medicine from Oxford Deanery. Following her higher specialist training, she was awarded the certificate of specialist training (CCST) in GIM and Rheumatology from Royal College of Physicians London.

She has a special interest in early arthritis. Dr Ashok has had two posters at the international meeting on early arthritis. Furthermore, she has experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound, which complements her interest in early arthritis.

Medical Education is an area Dr Ashok is heavily involved in. She have been awarded an Associate of the Higher Education Academy by the Royal College of Physicians in 2011. She is involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, GPs and nurses, in addition to her significant contribution for the MRCP examination board.

Dr Ashok has an active interest in research and is the principal investigator in three major multicentre clinical trials in the NIHR portfolio, in addition to pharmaceutical sponsored clinical studies.
